Our Story
Blue skies lead this couple to a land rich with cacao. Alex and Duncan met while they were flight instructors in California before their piloting airline careers. From San Francisco, Miami, New York, to Maui, 14 years later, these kids, along with their own three handsome kids, found their sweet spot on five acres in Haiku, Hi.
Everyone advised the couple to bulldoze the land, yet they had a clear vision of where they wanted to build their home for their growing family. As they started to clear the five acres of overgrown Haiku ocean jungle, what they didn't expect to find was a land rich with cacao trees. The two stumbled upon a rare variety of leaves while weed whacking and clearing their overgrown lot. Little by little they cleared mango, avocado, lilikoi, guava, coffee, coconut, banana, lime, and at least 3 varieties of cacao trees. They have since planted fig, cherry, orange, lemon, papaya, and pineapple, many of which they incorporate into their chocolate brews.

Being Chocolate lovers, they started experimenting as soon as they discovered their trees. Pouring mounds of energy into reenergizing the cacao trees, they succeeded in giving the cacao trees a new and healthy life. Pruning harvesting, fermenting, roasting (or not), hand cracking, recipe building, forever perfecting, this family is just getting started.

The aroma of freshly roasted cacao is an experience all in of its own. 12-24 hrs of stone grinding the cacao emits the most flavorful, rich environment. The love and ritual of handpicking pods from our trees, to taking a bite out of our chocolate bars, is rewarding and oh so delectable.
